Inauguration of the cloister

On 18 September 2012 at 3.30pm, many friends and regional officials gathered in the abbey to inaugurate the cloister.

All those who took part in this project were represented : artisans, workers, contractors and architects, patrons, benefactors and canons. The restoration of the cloister was a human and religious adventure that took a little over three years.

The Abbot warmly welcomed all the guests. Then Jean-Louis Rebière, chief architect of historic monuments, inaugurated this classic cloister. He highlighted the fact that the restoration had been done in the spirit of the Maurists with light and sobriety.

We were honoured by the presence of Archbishop Luigi Ventura, Apostolic Nuncio to France, Archbishop Alain Planet, Bishop of Carcassonne, and Eric Freysselinard, Prefect of the Aude Department. Also present were the former prefect of the Aude and the Regional Director of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) Eric Freysselinard, Prefect of the Aude

During the acceptance speech, the prefect of the Aude encouraged the community with these words : "We who live in the turmoil of the present time cannot but admire your approach."

Monsignor Luigi Ventura, representative of the Pope in France The cloister is like an "open window to God", said Archbishop Ventura, echoing a sentence of the Pope. By its architecture, the cloister invites us to lift our eyes towards heaven.

The ceremony ended with the solemn blessing. Archbishop Ventura after asking the grace of God for all those weho would pass through the cloister, sprinkled it with holy water and incensed the four corners of the restored cloister. Arrived at the fourth corner, the Nuncio gave the aspergill to the bishop of Carcassonne, a sign of the communion of all bishops with the Pope.

The next day, the local press reported this cultural and religious event.
